What is Holistic Nutrition?

Let’s unpack the term Holistic Nutritionist so you can get a firm grasp on the root of my practice and what my path means to me.

I think if I heard that designation I would assume the practitioner was a specialist in using organic and whole food to achieve greater health in the human body.

And that is only part of the training I received at my school, CSNN.  In my certification we look at the body, mind, and spirit of the person and make recommendations beyond just physical symptoms such as a gluten intolerance or gut imbalance.   Of course food is major but it’s not the whole story.

Holistic means the whole system so the body is only part of the story.  We aren’t empty machines, we have thoughts, dreams, behaviours, habits, feelings, spirits, desires…the list is endless.

Every client I have worked with over the years has the desire to feel better.

The path most people need to take to feel physically better is always in line with basic human needs that have to be met like nutrition, sleep, hydration, and movement, and time in nature.  Everyone will have their baseline of what better feels like and it varies from person to person but adjusting those four needs can move the needle for almost everyone.

Mental health often comes as a secondary focus as it doesn’t have the tangibility of physical health.  But the amazing thing is that someone that begins working on their physical health will notice improvement in their mental health because they are nourishing the processes in the body that create stability in their mental health.  An example is giving your body what it needs to support the function and creation of healthy neurotransmitters and hormones.  The caveat is that physical health can be hard to embark on when your mind is struggling.

As you can see, it’s impossible to separate these two realms of being because they work best in synergy.

A deep question I need to ask here is where does the will to live, the desire to access meaning, and feel love and belonging fit into this picture?

Without these things above I’m not sure why we would be striving for physical vitality or mental stability.  In fact people try to bypass their discomfort and lack of those things above by temporarily checking out of their physical and mental states in all sorts of ways.  We’re all guilty of this.  We’re human.

Where I believe those extremely important foundations (love, belonging, meaning, etc.) come from is by going within and knowing yourself.

I can’t tell you how many quizzes and assessments I have taken over the years to learn more about myself and to be perfectly honest I was just slapping another label on myself.  Introvert, highly sensitive, rebel, an enneagram number, etc.  These can be really insightful and fun but when it comes down to it freedom and feeling better is so personal and if we fit ourselves into a box we could end up feeling trapped.

Same with using a certain type of eating to feel healthy forever.  Our bodies and minds are always changing so we need to be receptive and listening.

The key is to open up to who you really are now.   Getting to know your body as it is presently, examining the thoughts you are thinking now and deciding if they’re helpful.   And you know how you access the truth about that?  By consulting what’s really inside consistently.  By accessing your own wisdom repeatedly.

You are the expert on you.  You just need to create space to listen to what your spirit needs right now.

We can’t separate the body and mind from the spirit.  And as a Holistic Nutritionist and a Reiki practitioner I am honoured to be able to help people understand that.

In December I decided to take a step back from how I had been working with clients for the past 4 years because it felt like something else was needed for both me and for them. Through lots of prayer, meditation, reading, listening to my inner voice, and letting go I realized that my favourite thing to do is help people uncover the same thing in them…the truth about who they are and what it is they need at this time.

So right now I am called to offer you all the opportunity to meet yourself in my new meditation program.

We’ll focus on the body, mind, and spirit creating space for you to connect each part of you and experience that wholeness.   And I will include Reiki energy in there to help you out beyond what only my words can do.

We start on May 1st and I am happy to answer any questions you personally have about the program before registering.  I want this to be a heck yes for you and for you to know it’s where you belong right now so let me know how I can help you with that decision and get in touch with me via the contact form on this site.

You can learn more about what the program will looks like at the link below and if you’re already a heck yes I am so excited for you! You can enroll on the very same page at the bottom:  Awake & Intentional: A 21 Day Meditation Program

Registration closes at 8pm Sunday April 30th in order for you to receive all the instructions and materials you need to start on Monday morning.

See you there!
